STORY SUMMARY: 

Puppet wants to follow Jesus by learning one of the careers s/he has seen during career day.  Unfortunately puppet keeps getting distracted with school responsibilities, etc.  Puppet realizes that she has been following Jesus by helping others, etc.  Based on Mark 10:17-31, the story of Jesus and the rich man.

 

CRUX OF STORY/LESSON: 

We can follow Jesus in our everyday work and play.

OUTLINE OF STORY:

PROPS / ACTIONS:

·        Narrator greets audience.  Talks about what exhibit she wants to see next.

·        Boy (or girl) puppet enters and talks excitedly about all the careers and all the ways we can follow Jesus through them.

o       He can’t wait to follow.

o       Narrator tries to tell him something

o       Boy keeps interrupting him.

 

·        Narrator enters lower stage on side

·        Boy enters lower stage, center.  He is dressed in fireman’s hat, artists smock, and other career day items.

·        Boy has idea.  He wants to be a fireman and save people.

·        Teacher enters and gives boy home­work she forgot to assign.

o        Boy protests, wants to practice being a fireman so he can follow Jesus

o        Narrator starts to talk but is interrupted.

 

·        Teacher enters with homework and leaves it on stage for the boy.

·        Pet enters

·        Boy has idea, he can be a veterinarian and follow Jesus.

o       Narrator starts to talk but is interrupted

o       Friend enters, she was just visited by their teacher and would like help with homework.

o       Boy is reluctant but agrees to help

o       Narrator starts to talk but is interrupted

 

·        Pet enters and interrupts narrator.

·        Boy gets bandages and tries to wrap them around his pet.

·        Friend enters

·        Pet runs away

·        Boy has idea, he can be a policeman and practice tracking criminals by looking for his dog

o       He decides to do his homework and help his friend instead.

o       He is sad that he cannot learn to follow Jesus because he keeps getting interrupted.

 

·        Pet exits.

·        Boy starts to go after pet but turns and comes back slowly.

·        The narrator speaks

o       Asks boy what he thinks he is doing when he studies and helps others.

o       Boy doesn’t know

o       Narrator points out that he is following Jesus by learning & helping.  That’s the whole point of career day.  We follow Jesus in our work. It can be a paid job, a volunteer job, a home­maker, a retiree, or a student.

·        Boy asks why he didn’t speak sooner.

·        Narrator faints and exits at end of skit.

·        Boy wonders what his problem is.

·        Boy decides he can practice being a nurse and get his bandages out.

·        Boy exits.
