TITLE: What Should I Do?

STORY SUMMARY:  A puppet with two coats, a tax collector, and a soldier all act out refusing to share with (or a willingness to extort) others  John preaches and each, in turn, asks what s/he should do.  John tells them how to repent and they, in turn, act out their repentance.

 

CRUX OF STORY/LESSON:  We prepare for Christmas, for the coming of Christ, by changing the way we treat others.  We prepare our hearts.

OUTLINE OF STORY:

PROPS / ACTIONS:

·        Puppet with two coats enters.

·        Sees puppet without coat who is cold and decides to leave because he is afraid puppet without a coat will steal one of his coats.

·        Poor puppet is on stage.  Puppet is cold and needs help

·        Puppet with two coats enters.

·        Puppet with two coats exits.

·        Tax collector sees poor puppet.

·        Tax collector sees that the poor puppet is weak, so he decides to tax him for more than he owes.

·        Tax collector demands a high tax.

·        Poor puppet objects but must pay all of what little he has to tax collector

·        Tax collector enters.

·        Tax collector exits

·        Soldier sees poor man. 

·        Soldier is hungry and demands the food that the poor puppet has.

·        Poor puppet objects but gives him food when solider threatens him.

·        Soldier then scares poor puppet off.

 

·        Soldier enters

·        Soldier takes food from poor puppet.

·        Poor puppet exits.

 

·        Puppet with two coats and tax collector join solider and they decide to go hear John preach

·        John asks, You brood of viper!  Who warned you to flee the wrath to come? And tells them of Christ’s coming.

 

·        Puppet with two coats and tax collector enters.

·        John enters.

·        Man with two coats asks what he must do to prepare for the coming of Christ.

·        John tells him to share his coat.

·        Tax collector asks what he must do.

·        John tells him not to defraud others.

·        Soldier asks what he must do.

·        John tells him to be satisfied with his wages and not to force others to give him things.

·        John leaves.

·        All three look at each other and says, “Ooops!”

 

·         

·        Puppet with two coats goes to poor puppet and offers him his coat and wishes him a merry Christmas.

·        Tax collector returns money he stole and wishes him a Merry Christmas

·        Soldier offers to take man out to each and wishes him a Merry Christmas.

·        Poor puppet is confused and asks, “Did I miss something here?”

·        Soldier responds, “No, we did.  But from now on, we won’t.”

·        Poor puppet enters

·        Puppet with two coats shares coat with poor puppet then exits.

·        Tax collector gives money bag back to poor puppet then exits.

·        Solider and poor puppet exit together.
