STORY SUMMARY: 

Narrator tries to tell story of Nice Cinderella and her mean family but her family is nice and Cinderella is mean.  As it turns out, Cinderella doesn’t want to be a princess and go to a “stupid” ball.  She wants to be a basketball player.  She meets the Prince who turns out to be a basketball coach.

OUTLINE OF STORY:

PROPS / ACTIONS:

Scene One – Introduction of Characters

·        Narrator introduces story of kind Cinderella and her mean family

·        Lights come up on upper stage

·        Narrator enters upper stage

·        Stepmother chases butterfly and looks at pretty flowers.

·        Narrator introduces her as Cinderella

o       Stepmother corrects narrator

o       Narrator is confused, the step­mother is supposed to be mean

o       Stepmother says she is nice

o       Narrator complains that that’s not in the script.

·        Lights come up on lower stage

·        Stepmother enters chasing a butterfly and calling out to it sweetly.

·        Stepsister asks her mother to help her raise money so poor children can attend the royal ball.

·        Narrator introduces her as Cinderella

o       Stepsister corrects narrator

o       Narrator is confused, the step­sister is supposed to be mean

o       Stepsister says she is nice

o       Narrator complains that that’s not in the script.

·        Stepsister enters lower stage and talks to stepmother.

·        Cinderella barges in and tells everyone to get out of her way and leave her alone.

o       Stepmother tells her to get ready for the royal ball but Cinderella calls the ball stupid.

o       Stepsister asks her to help raise money so poor children can go to the ball.  Cinderella refuses.

·        Narrator interrupts, “Finally, a mean step sister who has read the script!”

o       Cinderella corrects him, she is Cinderella

o       Narrator is flabbergasted (this cannot be! What is going on here!, etc.)

o       Narrator orders everyone backstage (apologizes to audience)

·        Cinderella enters lower stage and pushes everyone out of her way.

·        All exit

·        Applause sign enters lower stage on side and moves across stage.  Hands follow clapping and pointing at the sign.

Scene Two – Cinderella with the Fairy Godmother

·        Narrator is perplexed.  Finally gets idea to get Fairy Godmother to help set Cinderella straight.

·        Narrator enters upper stage

·        Narrator calls for Fairy Godmother and the Harry Godmother comes up.

o       Narrator starts to explain what he wants the Fairy Godmother to explain to Cinderella

§         Harry Godmother explains who she is.

§         Narrator is upset and send her away

·        Harry Godmother (a hairy puppet) enters.

·        Harry Godmother apologizes for misunderstanding (“Could have sworn you said Harry Godmother") and exits.

·        Narrator calls again for Fairy Godmother and the Furry Godmother comes up.

o       Narrator starts to explain what he wants the Fairy Godmother to explain to Cinderella

§         Furry Godmother explains who she is.

§         Narrator is upset and send her away

·        Furry Godmother (a furry puppet) enters.

·        Furry Godmother apologizes for misunderstanding (“Could have sworn you said Furry Godmother") and exits.

·        Narrator calls again for Fairy Godmother and the Fairy Godmother comes up.

o       Narrator asks for help

o       Fairy Godmother says she will help

§         She tells narrator to leave

§         Narrator reluctantly leaves

·        Fairy Godmother enters

·        Narrator exits.

·        Cinderella enters slowly and is sad and asks who other puppet is.

·        Fairy Godmother introduces herself and asks if she can help

·        Cinderella says the only help she wants is help staying away from the royal ball

·        Fairy Godmother is confused. 

·        Cinderella explains that she has been upset recently and mean to others because she does not want to be a princess.

·        Fairy Godmother asks what she wants to be.

·        Cinderella says, “A Pro Basketball player.”

·        Fairy Godmother makes a deal, she will change her into a b-ball player if she’ll go to the ball, but she’ll have to leave by midnight or she’ll turn into a princess like the narrator wants.

·        Cinderella agrees and is changed

·        Cinderella enters lower stage wearing dress for the royal ball.

·        Fairy Godmother waves magic wand

·        “Poof” sign pops in front of Cinderella.

o       The royal ball dress is quickly pulled off

o       The “Poof” sign disappears

o       Cinderella is left wearing a b-ball uniform

·        All exit

·        Applause sign enters lower stage on side and moves across stage.  Hands follow clapping and pointing at the sign.

Scene Three – The Royal Ball

·        Narrator introduces the royal ball

o       A ball with the word “Royal” on it appears

o       Narrator fumes, ball leaves.

·        Narrator enters upper stage

·        Enter Royal Ball prop

·        Prop exits.

 

·        Cinderella enters.

·        Narrator glad ball is finally going, realizes that Cinderella is dressed “wrong” and complains.

·        Fairy Godmother appears and tells narrator to “Put a sock in it!”

·        Cinderella enters

·        Fairy Godmother enters

·        Fairy Godmother zaps narrator

o       Narrator falls offstage for a second and reenters with a sock in his mouth.

o       Narrator exits

·        Cinderella complains that she isn’t having any fun.  Everyone is avoiding her because she dressed differently

·        Fairy Godmother says that one person has been watching her and that he is coming over now.

·        Fairy Godmother exits

o       Poof sign appears in front of Fairy Godmother who exits

o       Poof sign disappears.

·        Prince complements Cinderella on the way she is dressed.

o       He gets tired of all the princesses

o       He is a coach

·        Cinderella taken aback and asks who he is.  He is the Prince. 

·        Prince tells Cinderella how he is looking for players for his b-ball team.

·        The clock starts to strike twelve

o       Cinderella asks what time it is

o       Prince tells her its midnight

o       Cinderella flees

o       Prince is amazed at her speed

·        Prince wonders how he can find her and finds her shoe

·        Prince enters

·        Cinderella exits

·        Prince holds up giant high top basketball shoe

·        Prince exits saying that he will search every gym in his kingdom.

·        Applause sign enters lower stage on side and moves across stage.  Hands follow clapping and pointing at the sign.

Scene Four – Prince finds Cinderella at home

·        Stepmother is nice to Cinderella, asks how the ball was, etc.

·        Cinderella tells her to leave her alone

·        Enter stepmother

·        Enter Cinderella

·        Exit Stepmother

·        Cinderella is mad at Fairy Godmother

o       She should have listen to narrator

o       She can’t change the script

·        Fairy Godmother tells her to be patient

·        Enter Fairy Godmother

·        Enter Narrator on upper stage.

o       Narrator throws in “I told you so” kind of comments and sneers as Fairy Godmother

·        Prince comes with shoe

·        Asks Cinderella to star on his team

·        Cinderella agrees and they leave together talking about signing bonus.

·        Enter Prince with shoe in tow

·        Exit Prince and Cinderella

·        Narrator aghast, complains that Fairy Godmother has ruined everything

·        Fairy Godmother tells him to lighten up and zaps him

·        Narrator ducks but comes up with basketball season tickets.

·        Narrator & Godmother exit together discussing the upcoming season

·        Applause sign enters lower stage on side and moves across stage.  Hands follow clapping and pointing at the sign
