Puppets act out song.  Jackie plays with Puff.  Then Jackie grows up and puff is left alone.

OUTLINE OF STORY:

PROPS / ACTIONS:
  1. (Chorus) Puff the magic dragon, lived by the sea, and frolicked in the Autumn mist in a land called Ho-nah-Lee.

 

·        Waves on one side of lower stage

·        Puff enters lower stage and frolicks

 

2.      Little Jackie Paper, loved that rascal Puff, and brought him strings and sealing wax, and other fancy stuff.  Oh,

 
  • Jackie Paper enters with strings.
  • Puff bites string and they play tug of war, a game of tag follows.
  • During tag, Puff or Jackie goes off stage and returns string covered.

 
  1. Together they would travel, on a boat with billowed sail.  Jackie kept a lookout perched on Puff’s gigantic tail.  Noble Kings and Princes would bow whene’re they came, Pirate ships would lower their flag, when Puff roared out his name.  Oh!

 

·        Puff and Jackie pretend to be on ship

·        King enters on land side and bows

·        Ship and pirate enter over water

 
  1. Chorus

 

·        Childhood toy props enter upper stage and move about.  Pinwheel spins, net chases butterfly, bucket and shovel spin.

·        Action continues on lower stage.  Puff spars with pirates.  Jackie laughs and plays, pulls string, etc.

 
  1. A dragon lives forever, but not so little boys.  Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys.  One gray night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more.  And Puff, that mighty dragon; He ceased his fearless roar.  Oh.

 

·        Props exit upper stage

·        One at a time, the pirates, their ship, the king, and finally Jackie all exit.

·        Puff looks to the right and left, searching for Jackie..

 
  1. Chorus

 

·        Childhood toy props enter upper stage and move about.  Pinwheel spins, net chases butterfly, bucket and shovel spin.

·        Puff looks up at upper stage and begins to play again.!

 
  1. His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell light rain.  Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane.  Without his life-long friend, Puff could not be brave.  So, Puff that might dragon, sadly slipped into his cave.  Oh!

 

·        Props exit upper stage.

·        Puff notices they are gone and tries to follow. 

·        Puff tries to play but stops.

·        Puff slowly slips off stage..

·        Childhood toy props enter upper stage and move about.  Pinwheel spins, net chases butterfly, bucket and shovel spin.

·        Puff enters upper stage during chorus repeat and frolics.
