STORY SUMMARY: 

Act out lyrics of song.  Fox is supposed to go to town, steal a goose, be chased by the owner, and make it home safely.  Goose, however, takes the offensive and chases everyone else during the song.

 

CRUX OF STORY/LESSON: 

Goose takes offensive and chases fox, owner, and eventually everyone.

OUTLINE OF STORY:

PROPS / ACTIONS:

  1. The fox went out on a chilly night, he prayed to the moon going to give him light. He had many miles to go that night before he reached the town-o, town-o, town-o, he had many miles to go that night before he reached the town-o.

 

·      Moon appears in upper stage

·      Town appears in lower on opposite side of fox.

 

2.      The fox he came to a great big pen where the ducks and the geese were kept therein.  He said, “One of you is going to grease my chin, before I leave this town-o, town-o, town-o, he said, one of you is going to grease my chin, before I leave this town-o.”

 

·        Goose appears and starts to shake at sight of fox

·        Fox corners goose.

 

  1. He grabbed the gray goose by the neck he throwed a duck across his back, he didn’t mind the quack quack quack, and the legs all dangling down-o, down-o, down-o, he didn’t mind the quack quack quack, an the legs all dangling down-o.

 

·        Fox tries to grab (bite) goose, goose dodges and pecks him.  After several attempts to grab the goose, the fox starts trying to get away, but the goose follows him.

 

  1. The old mother flipper flapper jumped out of bed, she threw back the shutters and stuck out her head saying, “John, John the gray goose is gone and the fox runs away from the town-o, town-o, town-o! Saying, “John, John the gray goose is gone, and the fox runs away from the town-o!”

 

·        Old mother flipper flapper appears in upper stage and goes wild.

·        John comes up on lower stage opposite fox/goose and looks around.

·        Goose chases fox off stage and leaves John searching around for them.

 

  1. John he ran to the top of the hill he blowed on his horn both loud and shrill the fox he said, “Better hurry up my kill, before they’re on my trail-o, trail-o, trail-o.”  The fox he said, “Better hurry up my kill, before they’re on my trail-o.

 

·        John (facing one way) tries to blow horn.  Fox, with goose in pursuit, come on stage from behind John and knock him down and exit.

·        John stands up, faces other way, tries to blow horn again, and is knocked down again from behind as goose chases fox from other direction.  All exit.

 

  1. The fox he came to his cozy den and the little ones gathered 8-9-10 crying, “Daddy, daddy better go back again, it must be a mighty fine town-o, town-o, town-o, crying Daddy, daddy, better go back again, it must be a mighty fine town-o!

 

·        Fox and John enter lower stage.  Wife and children appear.  Fox is shouting “Run for your life, mad goose!!”  All scatter, goose is left on stage cackling.

·        End song!

  1. (The fox and his wife without any strife they cut up the goose with a fork and knife. They never had such a feast in their life, and the little ones chewed on the bones-o, bones-o bones-o.  They never had such a feast in their lives, and the little ones chewed on the bones-o!)
