OUTLINE OF STORY:

PROPS / ACTIONS:

·        Narrator introduces characters and the story.

·   The story begins long ago in Egypt with the Pharaoh.  He was the King of Egypt.  God’s people, the Hebrews, were his slaves.  But the Hebrews had grown in numbers so much that the Pharaoh was now afraid of them.

·   So, the Pharaoh devised an evil plan.  He ordered all boy Hebrew babies to be thrown into the Nile.  In Pharaoh’s time, only boys could grow up to be soldiers and leaders of armies.  So, he would kill the boys.  He would keep the girl babies to grow up to be slaves and moms who would make more babies who would grow up to be slaves, too.

·        All action is on the lower stage.

·        Pharaoh enters with his guards and orders people around

·        The Pharaoh sends his guards out to throw male babies into the Nile river.

·        Moses mother, however, hid him from the guards.

·        (Pharaoh exit) Moses’ mother enters with baby Moses.

·        Guards enter stage.

·        Mother puts baby Moses down and stands between him and the guards.

·        Guards look at her and come close.

·        Mom moves around so they cannot see baby.

·        Guards are suspicious but exit stage.

·        Moses’ mother realized that she could not keep hiding Moses from the Pharaoh.  So, she decided to throw him in the Nile herself.  But, Pharaoh’s order did not say how to throw babies into the river.  So, she made a basket for Moses and made it waterproof.  She put him in the basket, then in the river and watched to see what would happen.

·        Moses’ mother paces and acts worried.

·        She picks him up and carries him to the river as if to throw him in.

·        She stops.

·        She puts down the baby Moses.

·        She exits and returns with the basket.

·        She puts him in the basket and puts the basket in the river.

·        Then, she hides nearby and watches.

·        Pharaoh’s daughter came down to the river at that time to bath.  She saw the basket in the reeds and sent her maid to retrieve it.  She looked in the basket and saw the baby.  It was crying.  She had pity on the baby.  She realized that it was one of the Hebrew babies and sent for a Hebrew woman to take care of him.  Moses mother was found and given him to take care of.

·        Pharaoh’s daughter and her maid enter.

·        She sees the basket and sends her maid to retrieve it.

·        She sees it is one of the Hebrew children and starts to throw it back into the river, but the child is crying.

·        She takes pity on Moses & hold him.

·        She sends for a Hebrew woman to care for him and gives her the baby.
