STORY SUMMARY:  New kid in school needs help studying for test.  No one will help her.  Finally, Sam stops and helps the new kid.

OUTLINE OF STORY:

PROPS / ACTIONS:

ˇ        Teacher talks to new kid and gives assignment.  There will be a paper due at the end of the week on friend­ship.

ˇ        New kid takes books and says he will be ready

ˇ        Lights come up

ˇ        Teacher is on stage next to books

ˇ        New Kid enters

ˇ        Teacher gives assignment

ˇ        Teacher exits

ˇ        New kids meet bullies who take his books.

ˇ        New kid ponders over books.

ˇ        Bullies enter and tease new kid

o       He talks funny, dresses funny, etc.

o       Bullies push him around and take books.

ˇ        Bullies exit

ˇ        New kid asks for help to study test from principal.  But the principal is too busy deciding what to do about the bullies to help.

ˇ        Principal enters

ˇ        Principal finds out what happened and starts to go look for bullies. He is too busy to help new kid study and exits.

ˇ        New kid asks for help to study test from straight A student.  But the student is has to get to class then has soccer practice then has Latin club, etc.

 

ˇ        Straight A kid enters wearing a backpack and carrying a soccer ball

ˇ        Student drops ball, books out of backpack, etc.,

ˇ        Student exits.

ˇ        Sam comes and asks what is wrong

o       Sam shares his books

o       Same takes new kid to library and loans him his card

o       Sam offers to meet him later to study.

ˇ        New kid asks why he is so helpful

o       Sam says he was a new kid once, too

o       He knows how hard it is to get by without a friend.

ˇ        Sam enters

ˇ        Sam gives library card to new kid.

ˇ        Sam exits

ˇ        New kids talks about assignment

ˇ        Asks audience who his friend was

o       The principal?

o       The straight A student?

o       Sam?

ˇ        New Kid decides he knows what he will write about.

ˇ        New kids exits

ˇ        Lights go down.
