STORY SUMMARY: 

Puppets act out song.  There are mountain and valley people.  The valley people attack and kill the mountain people to gain their treasure.  The mountain people had been willing to share but were killed anyway.  The treasure they had was peace.

OUTLINE OF STORY:

PROPS / ACTIONS:
  1. Listen children to a story that was written long ago.  ‘Bout a kingdom on a mountain and the valley folk below.  On the mountain was a treasure buried deep beneath a stone.  And the valley people swore they’d have it for their very own.

 

·        Valley puppet on lower stage

·        Mountain puppet on upper stage with mountain prop and rock prop.

·        Valley puppet looks up at rock with treasure and looks determined.nters lower stage and frolicks

 

2.      (Chorus) Go ahead and hate your neighbor. Go ahead and cheat a friend.  Do it in the name of heaven.  Justify it in the end.  There won’t be any trumpets blowin’ come the judgement day.  On the bloody morning after…ONE TIN SOLDIER rides away.

 

·        Valley Neighbor enters lower stage and distracts Valley puppet.

·        Valley puppet pushes and bullies the neighbor puppet. 

·        Hand puppets enter lower stage with trumpets.

·        One tin soldier comes across lower stage.  Valley puppet stops picking on neighbor (who exits) and backs up to let tin soldier pass.

·        Valley puppet “shakes it off” after tin soldier leaves.

 
  1. So the people of the valley sent a message up the hill asking for the buried treasure tons of gold for which they’d kill.  Came an answer from the kingdom, “With our brother we will share all the secrets of our mountain, all the riches buried there.”

 

·        Messenger enters lower stage.

·        Valley puppet sends messenger to upper stage.

·        Messenger exits lower and enters upper stage.

·        Messenger gives message and receives reply.

·        Messenger exits and pirate enter over water

·        Messenger enters lower stage and gives message (pretend talking)

·        Valley puppet becomes angry and pushes messenger around.

·        One tin soldier comes across lower stage.  Valley puppet stops picking on messenger (who exits) and backs up to let tin soldier pass.

·                  Valley puppet “shakes it off” after tin soldier leaves.

 
  1. Now the valley cried with anger. Mount your horses, draw your sword.  And they killed the mountain people so they won their just reward.  Now they stood beside the treasure on the mountain, dark and red.  Turned the stone and looked beneath it, “Peace on Earth” was all it said.

 

·        Valley puppet shakes fist at mountain puppet.

·        Valley puppet exits and enters upper stage.

·        Valley puppet strikes mountain puppet who exits.

·        Valley puppet turns over rock

·                  Song ends, lights dim to dark.
