OUTLINE OF STORY:

PROPS / ACTIONS:
  1. When I was just a wee little lad full of health and joy, My father homeward came one night and gave to me a toy.  A wonder to behold it was, with many colors bring, and the moment I laid eyes on it, it became my heart’s delight.

 

·        Child on stage.

·        Father enters and brings toy up.

·        Child reacts with joy.

 

2.      (Chorus)  It went “zip” when it moved, and “bop” when it stopped and whirr when it stood still, I never knew just what it was And I guess I never will.

 

·        (Upper stage on chorus)

·        Second toy zips,  bops, and whirrs

 
  1. The first time that I picked it up I had a big surprise.  For right on its bottom were two big buttons that looked like big green eyes.  I first pushed one and then the other, and this I twisted its lid.  And when I set it down again, this is what it did.

 

·        Child picks up toy.

·        Toy prop (on stick) is turned around to reveal eyes. 

·        Puppet mimics pushing buttons and twisting toys lid.

·        The toy starts to shake…

·        Toy on upper stage zips, bops, and whirrs.

 
  1. It first marched left and then marched right and then marched under a chair.  And when I looked where it had gone, it wasn’t even there!  I started to sob and my daddy laughed , for he knew that I would find, When I turned around, my marvelous toy, chugging from behind

 

·        Toy on lower stage marches left, then right (between father and son puppets), then disappears under the stage.

·        Child looks at father and starts to cry

·        Toy appears behind child, the father laughs

·        Child turns to see toy “chugging”

 
  1. Chorus

 

·        Toy on upper stage zips, etc.
  1. Musical interlude

·        Toy (lower stage) disappears and reappears around lower and upper stage.  Child laughs and chases the toy.

·        Father quietly exits

·        Child left on stage

 
  1. Well, the years have gone by too quickly, it seems I have my own little boy.  And yesterday I gave to him my marvelous little toy.  His eyes nearly popped right out of his head and he gave a squeal of glee.  Neither one of us knows just what it is, but he loves it just like me.

 

·        2nd child puppet enters stage

·        1st child puppet (now father) brings up toy.

·        2nd child examines toy, pushes buttons, etc.

 
  1. Chorus.

·        Action continues on lower stage with 2nd child chasing the toy.

·        Toy on upper stage zips, bops, etc.
