LEARNING OUTCOMES: 

·         Identify God given talents

 

MATERIALS:

·         Digital camera (or Polaroid, or regular camera)

·         Art supplies (paper, markers, glue, etc.)

·         Costumes

·         Familiarize yourself with the story of the Little Drummer Boy

 

PLAN:

·         Welcome explorers, go over memory verse.

·         Explain the story of the Little Drummer Boy to the explorers

o        Explorers will put on costumes and decide on scenes to act out (see below for suggestions).

o        Take a picture of each scene with camera

·         End with discussion on the gift that the drummer brought to Jesus

o        What gifts to we have to bring?

o        Identify one gift you have that you are willing to give to Jesus.  Draw, write, or use another available artistic medium to communicate that gift.

·         End with prayer.  Thank God for our gifts and the chance to share them.

·         Develop or print pictures and put captions with each picture (see below for suggestions).

o        Post in church.

o        Post drawings, etc, done by explorers around the manger picture to represent the gifts the explorers bring.

Suggestions for Scenes and Captions

 

·         Decide what kinds of scenes to set up such as:

1.      Picture of happy boy or girl (the “drummer”)

2.      Happy Drummer with family

3.      Scene of tragedy

4.      Comfort from friends

5.      Drummer is angry at the world

6.      Manger scene

 

·         Each scene could be printed (or developed) later and captions such as these below added to them:

1.      Once, a young man was living happily

2.      With a happy family

3.      When his life was turned upside down.  He was mistreated and abandoned.

4.      He did receive help from friends, but it was not enough

5.      He was bitter and angry at the world.  But one day something happened.  He happened upon a baby born in a manger

6.      What could a poor, broke, young soul bring to a new born king?  Look and see!

o        Post this picture and its captions with lots of space around it.

o        Post the drawings, etc., done by the explorers around this picture of the manger scene.
