Video Center

Spend some time discussing Christmas with the explorers before and after watching the video.  Before the video, try to just listen to their answers about the meaning of Christmas.  After the video, discuss their answers in more detail.

After watching the video, discuss questions like:

  1. Why was Charlie Brown depressed?

  1. Lucy said that Charlie Brown needed to be more involved in Christmas.  So she had him direct the Christmas play.  Did this involvement solve his problem with Christmas?  Why or why not?

  1. How could anyone not like Christmas?

  1. How did Snoopy celebrate Christmas?  What do you think about that?

  1. Why did Charlie Brown get upset with his sister Sally?  She just wanted “her fair share.”

  1. Lucy wanted Charlie Brown to get the biggest, aluminum tree available for their Christmas play.  Instead, Charlie Brown picked out a puny, live tree that no one else wanted.  Which tree would you prefer for your house?  Why?

  1. When asked, what answer did Linus give to Charlie Brown about the meaning of Christmas?

  1. What is the meaning of Christmas?

  1. Discuss (again) the ways in which we celebrate Christmas.  How do they help or hinder us?

  1. What happened to the tree that no one wanted?  What did Charlie Brown learn about Christmas?  What message does Charles Shultz have for us?
