Bible Memory Verse: Jonah 4:2(b) "You are a loving and merciful God,

always patient, always kind, ready to change your mind and not punish."

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

• God leads us to forgive others.

MATERIALS:

• Fish (two large fish cut outs fastened together)
• Paint
• Plastic bags (to stuff fish)
• Glitter paint
• Sponges
• Hangers (yarn)
• Copper paint.
• Digital Camera (use to take pictures of students)

PLAN:

• Welcome children
• Go over memory verse
• Make a fish!
• Paint fish
• Stuff fish
• Student puts their picture (taken with digital camera and printed out) and put it in the mouth of the fish!
• Discuss (see questions below).

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

1. Why didn’t Jonah want to offer God’s forgiveness to the people of Ninevah? (They were enemies of Jonah’s people)

2. What did he do? (hide, run away?)

3. How did Jonah feel? (angry, afraid, resentful?)

4. Jonah would have rather died than offer forgiveness to the people of Ninevah. Can you imagine feeling that way? Why or why not?

5. Why is it so hard sometimes to forgive others?

6. Did God forgive Jonah? If so, how do we know? (God gave Jonah a second chance).

7. Putting your picture in the mouth of the fish you painted is to remind you of times when you may, like Jonah, have had trouble forgiving others.

a. Can you think of any times? Discuss.

b. Why is forgiveness so important? (We offer others another chance just like God offers us another chance, etc.)

c. Is your fish swallowing you or spitting you out? Discuss.
