Discussion Questions

 

1.                  Why didn’t Jonah want to go to Ninevah?  (He was afraid the people would not listen to him).

 

2.                  Why did Jonah feel like a fugitive?  (He was running away form God.)

 

3.                  How much did Jonah pay to sail on the ship?  (20 pieces of gold – the usual fare was 10)

 

4.                  What happened in the whale’s belly?  (Jonah asked God for forgiveness).

 

5.                  Did Jonah obey God this time?  (Yes, sort of, He proclaimed that God would destroy Ninevah but he didn’t offer God’s forgiveness if the people would repent.)

 

6.                  How many days were there until the destruction?  (40 days)

 

7.                  What did the people do?  (Even though Jonah did not proclaim that God would forgive the people if they repented, they nevertheless repented)

 

8.                  What did the King do?  (He ordered the people to repent, he also put on sack cloth and sat in ashes).

 

9.                  Did God spare the city?  (Yes)

 

10.             Was Jonah happy that the people were spared?  (No, he was angry!) Why?
