NOAH AND THE ARK

VIDEO CENTER

 

        I.            OPENING:

1.      Allow the Mentors to take roll and offering

2.      Welcome - welcome the students -- introduce yourself and ask the children to introduce themselves.

(Example) I am __________ and my favorite animal is ______________. (Make sure adults participate)

1.      Have opening prayer: Holy God, we thank you for our leaders. Help us to hear in the story of Noah, your words for us. Remind us, over and over, that you are always faithful and will never leave us. Lead us to live knowing this, in faith and confidence. in Jesus' name. Amen.

        I.            INTRODUCE VIDEO AND GO OVER MEMORY VERSE:

·         We will be seeing the story of Noah and the Ark

1.      Does anyone know where in the Bible this story is found? Old Testament - first book of the Bible - Genesis. The story begins in Chapter 6 and continues through Chapter 9. (Show them where that is in the Bible and tell them if they do not know)

2.      GO OVER MEMORY VERSE: "I am putting a bow in the clouds, it will be a sign of my covenant with the world." (Genesis 9:13)

3.      What does the word bow mean? Rainbow

4.      While you watch the video -- you will hear about a covenant -- be thinking of what that word means. We will discuss this after the video.

You will see three people in this video that do not belong in the story. They are there to narrate and guide us through the story. They are Derick, Margo, and Mokey.

Give out popcorn and drink at this time and begin video -- 30 minutes.

        I.            DISCUSSION QUESTIONS FOLLOWING VIDEO:

1.      Why did God save Noah and his family? Because Noah and his family were righteous -- (This does not mean they were without sin -- but they were faithful to do what God commanded).

2.      Why did God destroy mankind and the earth? Because of the sin, wickedness, violence, and corruption.

3.      Who closed the door of the Ark? God -- the hand of God etc.

4.      Can you name the people on the Ark? Noah and his wife, his three sons, Ham, Shem, Jepheth and their wives.

5.      How long did it rain? 40 days and nights

 

 

QUESTIONS FOR THE YOUNGER CLASS:

    1. Have you ever gone on a long trip in the car with your family?
    2. How did you feel?
    3. How do you think you would feel if you were one of Noah's sons and you were shut up in the Ark with your mom, dad, two brothers, and all those animals?
    4. What do you think it smelled like in the Ark?
    5. What kind of noises would you have heard?
    6. How do you think Noah and his family felt when the rains kept coming down day after day?

 

QUESTIONS FOR THE OLDER CLASS

    1. What bird did Noah first release? A raven
    2. What kind of bird did Noah send out the second time? Dove
    3. How many times did he send the bird out before it returned with evidence that there was land? two
    4. What did it return with? Olive branch
    5. How do you think Noah felt when the people wouldn't listen to him?
    6. How do you think people felt when they saw the door of the ark being shut?
    7. How do you think Noah felt as he watched the people as it began to rain?
    8. Noah and his family knew the ark was a place of safety for them. Do you think they would have complained? What about?
    9. What do you do when God helps you in some special way? What can you do to thank him?
    10. How do you feel when someone thanks you for doing something? How do you think it makes God feel when we thank Him?

HISTORY OF COVENANTS:

  1. Why are covenants still important to us today: Because of his Covenant of Grace, he has provided a way for us to escape judgment if we are willing to hear and obey his words.

Loving God, we thank you for the stories of the Bible. Thank you for teaching us about your faithfulness to us. Help us to be faithful to each other and to practice being a follower of Jesus in our daily lives. Amen.
