TEMPLE/ART LESSON PLANS

1.      Introduce myself and Ann

2.      Introduce the Theme - Faith and Forgiveness

~          What do these two words mean?

~          Faith?

~          Forgiveness?

3.      Introduce Bible verse - "When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, 'son, your sins are forgiven."  Mark 2:5  (Put this on the blackboard)

4.      What is a paralytic?

5.      Tell the story of Mark 2:1-12

~          Show them where it is in the Bible, but don't read to them; tell the story from memory.  Tell them about which of the two options below you have chose to do.

(1)   As a class, build a table top sized replica of house with clay, sticks, and straw, and make clay figures or clothespin figures (decorated with fabric scraps and magic markers) of the people in the story.  Divide the children to work on various parts:   house, paralyzed man, Jesus, 4 friends, 2 Pharisees, and several members of the crowd and/or Jesus' disciples.

(2)   Create a mural with the title "everyone can come to Jesus" (Or something similar).  Have the children cut construction paper into shapes representing themselves and/or their friends, and decorate them with yearn, scraps of fabric, felt, magic markers, etc.

6.      Talk about key concepts

~          Those in need of healing should seek Jesus

~          Faith of friend can help us find healing

~          Forgiveness can release us from life's burdens

~          Jesus has power to forgive our sins

7.      Say prayer:  "Dear God, Care for all who are sick.  Please make them well.  Amen.

8.      Turn over to Ann

OLDER:

Loving God, as Jesus has taught us that through faith we may find healing, may you heal the brokenness in our lives and in your world.  Help us to walk in faith.  In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
