·         Each center will ask, “Why are these small things wise?”

·         The explorers will better understand that we are strong when we make our home in Christ.

·         The explorers will be able to identify at least 3 ways that they can make their home in Christ

MATERIALS: (all available from www.sundaysoftware.com )

Stewardship and Badgers

The badgers are a people without power, yet they make their home in the rocks.  A steward, one who cares for their master’s affairs, would often live in their master’s home.  Like the badger, we are not strong.  But if we will make our home in the rock, in Christ, we will be safe.  This center will explore how we, the stewards of the gospel, make our home in Christ.

Life Application Bible Center

  1. Look up the word “Steward” Check out the Bible references.
    1. Describe a faithful steward:

    1. Describe an unfaithful Steward:

    1. Who is the master of the house?

  1. How do you make your home in Christ?

Read several of the scripture references for steward.  Describe the emotions that these words bring up in you.  Do they make you feel safe, uneasy, or what.  Why?

Writing Blaster Center

  1. A steward is someone who makes himself or herself at home in their master’s house.  As a steward in Christ’s home…
    1. What are some privileges you enjoy?

    1. What are some responsibilities you have?

  1. Make two lists, one of privileges and one of responsibilities using writing blaster.  Illustrate as time allows.

Crossword Center:  Depending on whether you are at the computer lab early or late in this rotation, this puzzle is either a preview or a review.  Work together to try and answer the questions.

Testmaker Center:  Answer the questions as best you can.  If you are in a small group, discuss each question before agreeing on an answer.  Remember, try to do well but the important thing is to learn and expand your understanding.

Tips for Center Leader

At some point discuss the answers to the questions either as a small group at each center or take time as a whole group perhaps at the end.

  1. You may want to divide the explorers into small groups that move together from center to center.
  2. You may want to have more than one CD at each computer center so the small groups won’t have to move around as much and are less likely to have to wait if they finish while the other groups are still working at their centers.
  3. With younger children, you may want a mentor at each center.

Life Application Bible Center -- Here are some examples of ways to make your home in Christ:

  1. Regular Bible reading and study
  2. Prayer
  3. Ask for and accept forgiveness when you make mistakes
  4. Seek to forgive others
  5. Attend church regularly
  6. Give generously of your time, talents, and resources

Writing Blaster Center

  1. Privileges might include:  caring church family, discipline, place to be yourself, etc.  Responsibilities may include:  chores, giving account of choices made, being sensitive to the needs of others, etc.
  2. You can let the explorers choose their own project or make a blank saved project for them to use.  You can start a new project and click on the background icon on the opening page and choose another background.  I imported a picture of a badger for the opening page and put a title on it.  Pages 2 and 4 are lists of privileges and responsibilities respectively.  Pages 3 and 5 were left as pages to illustrate.
  3. If you do not have a printer at your center, you can save their projects to a disk and print them later.

Crossword Center

  1. Don’t let the play on words (“Cross” word) go unnoticed.  Maybe put a sign at this center with the word crossword spelled with the word “cross” going horizontally and the word “word” spelled vertically through the word cross to form a cross.
  2. I used the Cdrom to make a puzzle using the following answers and clues:
    1. Ant – Stores food in the summer
    2. Badger – Makes home in the rocks
    3. Locusts – Have no king but march in rank
    4. Lizard – Can be easily caught but is found in king’s palaces
    5. Prepare – To plan ahead
    6. Christ – Where Christians make their home
    7. Cooperation – To work together
    8. Persist – To keep trying
    9. Steward – Care’s for someone’s resources

Testmaker Center:  The testmaker program is excellent.  It allows you to make an interactive test for the explorers.  Questions you may want to include:

1.      We are stewards of God’s work on earth because:

a.      We want to earn God’s favor

b.      We want to prove that we are worthy of God’s love

c.      We are responding to God’s love

d.      We are afraid of being punished by God if we don’t

2.      As a steward of God, our responsibilities include caring for:

a.      The earth and the environment

b.      The gospel

c.      Our friendships and family relationships

d.      Our money

e.      All of the above

3.      A faithful steward:

a.      Does only the work required

b.     Asks what he or she can do next

c.      Only works when asked

d.      Will not question the work

(An explanation of this answer might include the importance of questioning the work we do.  A faithful steward doesn’t want to waste time on trivial, unnecessary work or work that can be better done by others)

4.      Which is not the work of a faithful steward:

a.      Keeping your feelings of anger to yourself to keep the peace

b.      Confronting a person who makes you angry and telling them how their actions made you feel

c.      Going to a third party for advice on how to handle your anger

d.      Taking a time out when angry to collect your thoughts

(An explanation might point out that peacemaking, the stewardship of relationships, is not the absence of conflict but the willingness to confront it and deal with it fairly)

5.      True or false:  Some churches only care about money

a.      True

b.     False

(An explanation:  While some churches do lose their perspective and worry too much about money (ours?) they have other cares. This statement exaggerates.)

6.      When two or more stewards disagree about something and they cannot accept each other’s view they should:

a.      Hold fast to their view, vote, and go with the will of the majority.

b.      Hold fast to their view and leave if the others do not change.

c.      Hold fast to their view and throw the others out if they do not change.

d.      Seek a compromise

(Explanation:  As stewards many of us have strong opinions.  The goal is not to soften our opinions but to not give our views the power to divide us)

7.      As stewards, we are one because:

a.      We do the same work

b.      We share the same view of God

c.      We work for the same master

d.      We all agree on the important issues of faith

(Explanation:  If our unity depended on what we do <our common work, theology, social status, etc> it would never last.  Our unity is in Christ.  We all serve the same master)

8.      The badger is not powerful but is wise because:

a.      He knows how to build

b.     He knows where he belongs

c.      He knows how to be a steward
