Children |
Youth |
|
·
Under Lizards & Kings palaces (below) have young ones list only 1-2
problems and keep goals simple & concrete. |
·
|
Introduce this video with a discussion on what you want to be when you grow up.
1.
List such desire for each explorer as a goal on a
blackboard or flip chart. Leave some
space under each goal.
2.
Next, under each goal, write a potential problem that
could keep them from reaching their goal.
a. Ask
if they want to continue and if so what they might do to go on.
b. Add
this comment next to potential problem.
c.
Then add another potential problem under the first
problem and ask if they would still want to continue and if so, how.
d. Go
through with one problem for each goal then come back then start over with the
goal you began with. Repeat several
times.
e. Discuss
why God allows things to be so difficult.
3.
Discuss
lizards and palaces
a. Stewards are people who take care of the
affairs of another person.
i.
We are
stewards of God’s work on earth.
ii.
Sometimes
this is hard work. Discuss Proverbs
30:28.
b. Lizards are small and can be caught by
hand, yet they are able to live in King’s palaces. How do they do it? (They
keep coming back). Discuss what
persistence means.
c.
The video
follows three youth who have a King’s palace or goal that they want to reach.
i.
Try to
identify what goal they want to reach
ii.
What are
problems they face along the way
iii.
Are they able
to reach their goal (their King’s Palace)?
If so, how? If not there yet,
are they still on the way?
4.
Watch video,
then discuss. Go over Lizards and
King’s Palaces sheet.
a. What were the goals of each of the
youth? What problems did they
face? Did they keep moving? How?
i.
How were each
of them “persistent”
ii.
How can we be
persistent stewards of all that God has given us, including the church?
b. What did Angel tell the class at his old
school in the letter he wrote to them?
Lizards and King’s Palaces
Lizards can by
caught by hand, but they keep coming back.
Therefore, they are able to live in King’s palaces. They are persistent. They do not give up. Below, do the following:
1.
list at least
1 stewardship goal (such as, “take care of a pet”) that you would like to reach
and 1 goal that you would like to see the church reach.
2.
Next to each
goal, list at least four problems that you might face while you are trying to
reach your goal.
3.
Next to each
problem, list one way to move past this problem and keep heading toward your
goal.
a.
If you cannot
think of a reasonable answer, stop and ask for help from the rest of the group.
b.
If you cannot
think of another problem that might stop you (or the church) then, once again,
ask the group. There are usually no
shortage of ideas as to why plans won’t work out.
4.
Discuss as
time allows: As stewards of life and
the church…
a.
How do we set
goals?
b.
How do we
know when to quit? Keep going?
c.
What are your
goals?
d.
What are
goals you would like to see our church pursue?
e.
Can these
goals be reached? Will they?

Example: Angel’s goal was to help his old
neighborhood. Problems he faced
included: crime, kids who didn’t know how to keep from fighting, etc. He faced these problems by learning
mediation skills, helping mediate fights, etc.
