o           Discuss Psalms and the shepherds.

§         Shepherd were common in the psalmist’s day.

§         Why did a shepherd remind the psalmist of God?

·         Explore images, metaphors and there many meanings.  How did they help people understand who God is?

Psalm 23 -- Computer Center

Divide group into teams around each computer.  Hand out this guide to use to rewrite the psalm using images from today.  Use a “new” or blank story to write and illustrate your psalm.  You can use different borders, etc. for each page.

POINTS TO CONSIDER:

  1. What are some important points to consider in the image the psalmist used?
    1. For example, when choosing an image for God, the psalmist compared God to a shepherd.  Sheep do not choose their shepherds.  If you want to get this same idea across, you may not want to use an image of God as say, an elected official like a president.
    2. Explore the meaning of each image as you come up with one of your own.
  2. Come up with your own ideas for the psalm or use the guide below:

THE LORD IS MY _____________________________

The Lord is my _______________________, I shall not __________________.

He makes me ____________________________________________________;

He leads me _____________________________________________________;

He _____________________________________________________ my soul.

He leads me in ___________________________________ for his names sake.

Even though I walk through __________________________________________

I will fear no evil;  for you are _________________________________________

Your ________________________________________________ comfort(s) me

You prepare a __________________ before me in the presence of my enemies.

You ___________________________________________________________

My _____________________________________________________________

Surely _____________________________ shall follow me all the days of my life,

And I shall ________________________________________my whole life long.
